The tagline for early Fashion Tips material was ‘the grossest pop songs’ so for their debut EP, I wanted to get at something garish and lumpen but also super bright. There’s a line in Standing O that goes ‘We shake our cryptic plumage to an anxious rhythm’ and that’s what drew the ideas together. I planned around the tail feathers and then drew the lumps out from there, populating it with gemstone ‘eyes’ and colouring portions in CMYK colours for maximum brightness on printing. A bit of selection and ‘glitching’ effects finished it off and tied the title in on the layout.
