Friend was Tim Croft (Lump Hammer), Skylar Gill (Penance Stare) and myself and was ‘wholesome’ sludge and/or noise rock, based around heavy riffage without the impetus for machismo or threat attached to a lot of heavy music. The aim was to get at the cathartic joy in heavy music along the lines of Torche, Floor, Old Man Gloom etc.

We put out on album on Human Worth and I’m pretty happy with my lyrics on this stuff, as the material asked for me to shift things into a different direction and structure to what I’m used to.
