plague rider

paroxysm

The lyrical material for this release was pretty heavily tied to molecular processes of various diseases/conditions, with the tone in Hydrophobe being perhaps the beginning of the shift toward the more personally invested material on later releases. The cover image was a pretty easy tie in to the title – a paroxysm is a spasm, so I ran that as an arch of hysteria and came up with a discombobulated version of a human figure that I think fit pretty well. This was drawn up in ink, layered over some enamel spray marbling textures, and digitally made linework. The layout was also by me, and at the time I’d gotten really into making the lyrics as difficult to read as possible in line with the difficulty of the music (and probably mask a bit of low confidence in them).
