This is a modded old rack reverb unit, done with a chip and tutorial from CircuitBenders.co.uk. This thing was actually my first foray into vocal effects and what led to my liberal use of them ever since. Being an old rack unit, this had the big transformer built in and as this ended up as part of noise instrument that I would be holding, I didn’t fancy having mains voltage that close to my torso. So the first job was to remove and rewire the the transformer into an external block so that the operational power of the board was all that was going to where I’d be holding it.
Once I got that set up I went ahead and wired in the Circuit Benders chip, which replaces the clock of the circuit and allows you to mangle those reverbs and delays into bit crushed slowed down sludge. Very satisfying.
I also housed a little matrix mixer in the space in the chassis left by the transformer.
