The first version of this was built for a one off gig with Pound Land, and then sat dormant/as a bit of a test rig for little while before I was asked to do a run of noise performances for The Auxiliary as part of Sonic Arts Week. This was a perfect opportunity to set it up properly and kit it out with its own internal battery pack and a few pick up options.
This is built from the shell of a radiator from the practice room, with the innards removed and various springs bolted to it. There are a couple of piezo pick ups bolted on there and a guitar pickup bolted into the base of it, with various options to run these together. Because of the sheet metal structure it’s particularly good/bad at feedback and at picking up any surface noise.
The square box on the front contains a piezo pickup that runs through to a contact transducer so I can run acoustic feedback directly through the surface, as well as using the springs that hold it in place when it’s not in use. A battery pack and preamp mean that various pedal chains can be routed in and out of it, and shifted about depending on need.
This has been used since for guest noise purposes in a couple of Shan sets.
