The art for Rhizome was very much a hybrid digital/analog creation. It’s quite hard to produce something that fits the Plague Rider material both musically and thematically, and all the more so because I’m in the band so there’s an extra layer of involvement and weight to it. For Rhizome I wanted something that fit with the shifting, warping quality of the music and reflected some kind of turbulence whilst keeping it pretty abstract; so I ended up pouring house paint tester pots and left over acrylics over boards in various different consistencies and angles to get at the textures, that I then scanned and overlayed digitally, yielding the images used for the release.

I also did the layout on the releases with quiet invested ‘as performed’ visual poem layouts on the lyrics in the liner.
