Volumancer
Lo Egin are a doom band featuring sax and trombone, and I wanted to try to do something that really hammed up the brass element of the band, as well as tying in with their kind of medieval sound. And so the very brash (brazen, even) idea of brass O-Cards was born. With absolutely no prior knowledge of metalworking, I ordered in a load of sheets cut to size and set about the very steep learning process of scoring, folding, soldering and polishing the O-cards to fit. This involved making a scoring tool from an old allen key, tempering it and figuring out across a whole number of wrecked attempts, the point at which these things would ‘fold’ without splitting. The final results were worth it I think – imperfect and hand made in a way that sort of echoed the medieval bit better than I had intended and they develop a patina that matches the artwork well.
This was released by Panurus Productions with a lathe version on Dead Music Club.
Original art by the band with a minor bit of layout work by me.
You can find the Lo Egin discogrpahy here.
