RIFF/T was a performance installation by Tim Croft and I, as part of a response to the exhibition of the same name at Baltic 39. The premise to de and re-synchronise a riff over a duration within the gallery space. This eventually evolved into Tim and I performing a sort of stripped back band set up, with him on guitar and me on vocals respectively, in which we both repeated a version of the same riff through click tracks in headphones. One of these clicks was a beat out so we slowly drifted out of sync over the course of the performance before slowly coming back into time at which the performance ended.
This was recorded in situ in the first part of the exhibition and project back into the space during the second, with our forms and the backline becoming another image over the works on the wall and the sound recalled at full volume.
