Shrimp

Shrimp

Shrimp is free grind supergroup revolving around the talents of Ryosuke Kiyasu. This first version came off the back of Kiyasu’s run of snare drum performances in the UK (featured on Have I Got News For You, no less), and we put together an improv band featuring Chris Watson, Jon O’Neill, Rob Woodcock and myself. Both a live bootleg from the gig and live studio recordings were made, and the project continues each time Kiyasu is back in the vicinity with slightly different line ups. Shrimp was chosen as a project name based on the stark contrast between the wild noise we were making and something small and innocuous.

The image for this one was done in ink on paper with unipins and ink washes for shading, Scanned in and with layout and design by me. I’d got really into Junji Ito at this point so there’s a lot of stylistic influence there. The text has remained consistent across all releases and I’ve kept both the English and Japanese versions of the name together as part of the ‘logo’.

This was released on cassette via Panurus Productions.
