centuries of august

The art for this one is a little bit anomalous in that it’s based around subtraction as opposed to any kind of painting, or even collage. Part of the compositional structure for the album was grounded in fugue state and forgetting, so I took the painting The Roses Of Heliogabalus that the last track takes its name from and meticulously removed all the content except the rose petals. The original painting depicts the moment Elagabalus’s guests were smothered in a tide of petals, so removing the information leaves the image with loose shadowy silhouettes that fits the tone of the release.

This was released on cassette on Panurus Productions. I did the layout work for this one as well, and that included a super limited run in wooden boxes by Rob Danielson, filled with rose petals.
