This design was based around the lyrics for Challengers Lecture, which in turn is based on Geology Of Morals from Deleuze and Guattari’s A Thousand Plateaus. The song itself is a sort of first person recounting of Challenger’s role in the chapter as he explains concepts of articulation and stratification, whilst also dissolving and deterritorialising himself. I was keen to get at the sort of frantic and ultra complex tone of both the song and its context, so the image below is a semi automatic drawing of Challenger at his lectern as he dissolves/disperses. I also wanted to play with using the lyrics as a graphic element, so they’re mirrored and placed behind the image digitally, with the final line left unaltered for emphasis. Ink on paper, scanned and printed in yellow on purple.
