Profound encounter was based around the idea that what is deemed profound or otherworldly is often dictated by cultural context. I’d read something prior to making this about how UFO sightings or alien abduction stories had replaced angelic visitation tales from earlier in history, as a sort of science-fiction notion of aliens could been seen as more rational than ‘magical’ divine visitation.

I found that the Nuforc UFO hotline was archived online, so I used that as source material for ambient textures with liberal use of PaulStretch and reverb, and then layered the reports over the top, but with all context relating to what they were reports of removed. This left accounts that sat in an eerie realm where they could just as easily be divine visitation as extraterrestrial.
